How to use beautiful women for website traffic increase
September 19th, 2006 at 8:57 pm
One year ago I started a little experiment called Britney Spears vs Angelina Jolie to see how this two beautiful women feared in terms of web site traffic. The post has dominated My Money Blog ever since.
Although Britney and Angelina have nothing in common with niche this site is after they managed to pull in the most traffic through main search engines like Google, Yahoo and MSN. Just take a look what happened when Google picked up my post:

And now the tip you all been waiting for. If your traffic is really low and you are starting to fell depressive about it, try to follow this simple steps:
- pick up a celebrity
- think of an interesting title
- post a picture or two
- use appropriate keywords in your image file names
- wait for the traffic increase
I can’t guarantee you will experience the same traffic boost as I did, but if you don’t try you will never know.
However, I’m convinced that these actions I took have not helped me create a loyal and targeted readership that continues to benefit my blog today.
Update: I totally forgot to mention the use of appropriate keywords in your image file names. To take advantage of this, when choosing the file name of an image on your site, use an appropriate key phrase, for example “britney-spears.jpg” or “angelina-jolie.jpg”.

Your idea to increase website traffic is good. The question is could you use the traffic for generating more sales? I think this can work if you are promoting some sites like nude celebrities - but may not work for sites which are not relevant.

I remember when you did this experiment; I said something along the lines of not using a similar tactic. The problem is that it adds server load without any actual benefit, unless you manage to get a great ad to show those people that they are interested in enough to click on. They aren’t looking for a site like yours, so having them show up doesn’t help them or you.
It could be much worse, though. You could be paying for adwords traffic to that page. Heheh.

As I already said these actions I took have not helped me create a loyal and targeted readership and I will never repeat them.

Hmmm… I will use some of the tips, but not the women part. SEO is cool. Good thoughts oc files names. Nice contribution to the Group Writing Project at ProBlogger. My How To is up also.

This is kind of funny, actually. I was thinking along the lines of making a post like that, but using it as an opportunity to make a point about human nature. Cool post.

Something that I think people often overlook (and that you have duly illustrated) is that you can get traffic easily, but it is keeping it and getting interested readers for the actual topic of your blog that is the challenge. Lots of traffic doesn’t necessarily mean much in terms of loyal readership, customers, etc. Our how-to is up as well if you’d like to check it out!!

Very wise words MamaDuck - maintaining that high traffic level is the key. Short bursts are nice ( certainly better than nothing at all! ) but they won’t bring long-term success.

it’s clear that >65 % of the net users are only searching for sex related keywords .
this was also confirmed when wikipedia published the top views articles …
most were related to sex …

This sounds like a really good idea. Clever, actually. I should try this out sometime, just to see what sortof traffic happens. The negative, though, is what if you make people angry who were looking for Britney sites but instead got your site that has nothing to do with her? It might backfire terribly…
