More links, more traffic, more …

No, not more money! Almost everyone talks about how important quality inbound links are for search engine optimization (SEO). But this post is not about SEO. It’s about driving new readers to my blog.
Getting quality inbound links (from higher ranked sites) is not an easy process. In many cases you don’t have control over who links to you. So, how to get traffic from higher ranked sites? If I would be asked this question, my answer would be - content is king. But you already know this.
In the past two weeks I had some luck and my traffic stats increased tremendously. I was linked by such great sites like ProBlogger, FeedBurner and The Blog Herald.
My story
Everything started with my article about SEO for beginners and Darren’s post at ProBlogger.net. After that Darren also linked my article about FeedBurner which was recognized by their team and linked to me through the first page of FeedBurner.com. You can read the full entry on FeedBurner Publisher Buzz.
I’m not through with Darren. He sent me some more traffic by linking to my post about Amazon associates program.
Last, but not least. I got linked by Duncan (The Blog Herald) in his project - 100 blogs in 100 days. My Money Blog was mentioned on day 6.
Conclusion
I know that most of the traffic, from mentioned sites, is temporary and will not last long. But after this experience, I can personally confirm the importance of quality inbound links. Thank you Darren, Duncan and FeedBurner team.
And at the end I also learned: more links = more traffic = more page views = more clicks on ads = more money.

Hi there :)
Following the blog with interest.
Nice design and quality articles, how are things going so far? I personally have clicked on about 2 adds in 10 years of surfing but it seems that addsense really does work somehow, beats me :)
Cheers,
Andrew

You are right, I had two or three posts mentioned by darren and they worked a day or two.
I have one addition to your more, more, more idea:
I wrote at least two posts a day on a blog. (more and more posts…) and I do get more and more traffic from search engines since I have more possibilities to get found by visitors.
regards,
Markus

Yeah,I’d agree with Markus. Blog often is defintely one of the keys to keep the search hits coming in and keep those one-timers around. Big boys sites can only send the readers in our ways but it is up to us to keep them around.
Speaking from my own experiences, Darren’s 31 day project has helped me to gain initial ground, Duncan’s 100 blog post got me some steady readers because it wasn’t a post that got featured, it was my entire site and people clicked a lot more pages around.. Now, digg.com just promoted my post and I am getting a 1100% traffic increase and the visitors are still flooding in.. But how many can I keep is a big question…It’s gonna be a real test for the site’s contents I guess…

Wow, congrats on everything. I have noticed Darren linking to your great articles lately. That is great! Keep up the great work and good articles.
(Can’t believe I haven’t subscribed to your site earlier, thought I did the other day. Subscribed now!)

Andrew, adsens realy does work I can personali ensure you this but I won’t talk about numbers from stats.
Markus, Yuna, I couldn’t more agree with you. Like I already said - content is king. Good content brings visitors back to your site and that’s what we all wont. Only content can turn one time visitor (either from search engine or big boys sites) to a regular reader.
Congrats to both of you.
Thanks Brian and congrats to you to.

I had an awesome opportunity to experience this recently. About two weeks ago I went through a major remodeling on my three web sites (one community forum, two blogs). As part of this I looked at my server stats. My hits and page downloads were *much* higher than I had thought! I re-initialized my Adsense account and signed up with Chitika, Yahoo Publisher and Commission Junction. Right in the middle of this I ran across an opportunity to get a major infusion of hits: Dean Gray Tuesday.
This was an online ‘protest’ of sorts where over 200 people downloaded and made available the Dean Gray mashups of GreenDay’s “American Idiot” CD, in protest of Warner Brother’s crackdown. I downloaded the files, put them on a separate page on my site, then I registered with the protest organizer. The protest was a one-day 24-hour event that randomly handed out links to visitors so these songs could be distributed all over the world. My stats indicate that I received 380 site visitors coming from the protest organizer’s site in just that one day.
How many will I retain as regular visitors? Who knows. But at least I was partially ready with ad and affiliate and referral links all set up. Now I’m looking around for similar events. Let’s all protest!
