Win $1,000,000 With Pixelotto

December 6th, 2006 at 4:47 pm

Pixelotto is another brilliant idea (I wish I had come up with) from the creator of the Million Dollar Homepage, Alex Tew. This time Alex surprised us with his new revenue sharing model which will make one lucky person very happy.

Pixelotto offers you the chance to win $1,000,000 – just by clicking ads! On the Pixelotto Board there are 1 million pixels of ad space available at $2 per pixel. The $1m jackpot equals 50% of ad revenue once all the pixels are sold. A month after all the ad space is sold, one ad will be selected at random and a winner will be chosen from all those people who clicked that correct ad. The winner will also get to nominate a charity of their choice to receive $100,000.

All you have to do is register for free and start clicking ads to be in with a chance to win $1,000,000. We will see how Alex will end this time. Will it be another stupid brilliant idea or just stupid idea? By the time of this writing the prize fund is already at $112,800.

I have been following this site for several days now, and have realised that it is completely useless for advertisers to go onto the site. The hits they recieve will be completely random, thus achieving no increase in targeted hits. It is likely that most hits will simply leave the site within seconds of arriving, simply to get their chance of winning the prize.
There are however sites out there that have adopted the pixel based advertising, but in a constructive way. Take www.milliondollaremployment.co.uk for example. I saw it mentioned on another blog. This site provides its advertisers targeted hits. It advertises employment/recruitment sites. There are plenty on there and is the ony site of its kind (that I can find) that has so many employment site in one place. It is very usefull for people who wish to (for example) post their CV with lots of agencies. I used it for just that yesterday, and thanks to that site, I posted my CV with 21 recruitment agencies in just 2 hours. Try doing that using something like Google…. it would be impossible.

I agree with both comments.. I think Pixelotto re-creates the interest in pixel ads and the milliondollaremployment page takes it to a natural level.

Hinz, I couldn’t agree more with you. Advertisers will get a lot of useless traffic through Pixelotto.

Alex may pull it one more time by clever PR and interest in what he is doing right now. Otherwise the concept is not that interesting. For advertisers it just supplies useless traffic and from the users point there are many compettions and sweepstakes where winning chances are much better

Alex is taking some flak in the blogs.. Has he got it wrong? But, his Alexa rating is improving as indeed is the original MDHP… Even the milliondollaremployment.co.uk page seems to be improving on Alexa…Maybe there is more interest in pixel ads!!!

Again, i state that Alex could have done so much more with a new site. In my opinion he’s failed to make the mark with pixelotto. Providing visitors an incentive to click the ads was correct, however, making just one person a million dollar winner doesn’t fair well with the general public……. the chances of winning aren’t realistic. One of the copycats hit the mark and that is www.pixaprize.com. A long-term, sustainable business concept, with the grid transformed into a treasure hunt grid and prizes hidden behind various squares for visitors to win. If that wasn’t enough, vsitors are given quirky “hot & cold” clues to help them find those prizes. Gets visitors clicking and advertisers are much happier for the traffic. Appeasing both visitors and advertisers is what it’s about and pixaprize hits the mark. Unlucky Alex i say! should’ve copied pixaprize!

I found another site, but it’s quite different - it doesn’t sell pixels, but rather letters. http://www.lettermatrix.com

“everyones going potty over the pixelotty” @ pixelotty.com a cheaper alternative clone site.

Hello, some call me Ismail. You’ve probably visited my site, a contest to be the last person to find a prize on a page filled with ads.

What you don’t know, there are never any winners. I simply get paid by companies whose ads you see to play. Because you sign up for the contest, I now have your email address and sell it to the companies for more money. What do you get in return?

You do get something, you’ll never win a prize but you’ll get a mailbox full of spam messages. I’ll get money and because I doubt you’ll change your email address, I can keep reselling it.

So thank you for visiting my site, continue to do so. Who knows, maybe someday someone will win.
